Our 1/2 classroom will be participating in UVM Extension EFNEP’s Book-in-Bag program. This program was inspired by the Kansas State University Extension program, and is designed for kindergarten, first and second grade students. This course encourages young children to explore food and nutrition related topics through reading comprehension.
The EFNEP Nutrition Educator reads a storybook with a food-related message and then engages students in a hands-on learning activity to summarize the lesson. The Educator also distributes a healthy snack accompanied by recipes and a letter to take home. Students are encouraged to talk about the book, activity and make food at home with their families.
