The Vermont Presidential Scholars Program, sponsored by the Agency of Education, recognizes academic achievement, service, and leadership excellence and is awarded annually to 20 seniors from the state of Vermont. Outstanding students from across Vermont are selected as based on nominations from teachers, principals, and school counselors. Middlebury Union High School is fortunate to have had three students chosen for this prestigious award in the past three years. This year's recipient was senior Kate Wallace. Julian Schmidt, Class of 2018, and Jakub Kraus, Class of 2017, were honored in the past two years. The ceremony was held at the State House in Montpelier on Monday, January 28, 2019 with Governor Phil Scott and Commissioner of Education, Dan French, presiding. Sarah Soule, the Post-Secondary Planning Coordinator at MUHS, joined Kate and her family at the ceremony.
