Feb 16th ACSD/State of Vermont Masking Update
Dear ACSD Community,
Yesterday, Governor Scott announced that beginning on Monday, February 28, the State will not extend the masking requirement for Vermont schools that have a vaccination rate of 80% or higher. At ACSD, we will continue our masking requirement in all of our schools when we return from February break. However, we are working on a plan to lift the mask mandates in all of our schools in mid-March. The email below details our considerations as we move into this new phase of COVID recovery.
- Each shift in COVID guidance requires us to pause and create a plan that considers our local landscape. If cases continue to stabilize and decline, we believe it is reasonable to plan to lift our mask mandates in mid-March for all ACSD schools.
- A mid-March timeline allows us time to assess any spike in cases following winter break, consult with our ACSD COVID recovery team, review forthcoming guidance from the VT Department of Health and other medical authorities, consult with other districts in our region, and roll out a safety plan that ensures the needs of all of our students and families are considered.
- We have decided to work on a plan that prioritizes an equal experience for all ACSD students and continues to follow the science.
- Superintendent Burrows and Nurse Kelly Landwehr will host a community conversation on Tuesday March 8th at 6pm for parents, caregivers, students, and staff. We recognize that our community has many different needs and experiences and this will be a time when you can ask any questions and share any concerns that you have. We will post the zoom link on the acsdvt.org homepage under announcements and send it out in your weekly principal emails.
We have lived with shifting COVID safety guidance for the past two years and it can be hard for any of us to feel completely secure or even hopeful about what comes next. However, as a district, we have done an amazing job keeping each other safe and we are hopeful that this next phase of COVID recovery will allow for more joy and connection while we continue to build a culture of respect and kindness in our buildings.
We look forward to sharing more details of our plan when we return and we hope you all have a wonderful break!
Peter Burrows, Superintendent
Kelly Landwehr, COVID Coordinator
