Family Resources for March 14th Mask Guidance Change
Dear ACSD Community,
I'd like to start by thanking everyone for working to keep our students and school community safe over the last two years. On Monday, we will transition to a "mask-optional" community, which means that every student and staff member can decide whether to wear a mask. It is completely understandable that we will each approach this change from our own personal experiences. As a district, we have worked to listen and inform our community and move forward with decisions that support our entire district and are backed by science and the medical community. Within our schools, staff have focused on talking to and supporting students with their masking decisions while working to create a community that respects each individual's choice.
At home, we also want to provide you with resources to support your children during this transition:
1. COVID Community Conversation recording. Thanks to all of you who attended our Tuesday March 8th conversation about upcoming changes in state guidance on masking in schools. We were joined by local and statewide pediatric providers and medical experts who shared their expertise and answered questions. You can watch the recording here.
2. ACSD's new mask video: Making the choice that's right for you! We are very excited to share this video that was created by Nurse Kelly, MUHS students, and staff*. We are grateful to our students and staff for sharing their perspectives and for leading our community in modeling respect for each other. (Thanks to Shelburne Community School who created this social story which inspired our video.)
As always, please reach out to your school's administrator or nurse if you have specific questions or concerns you'd like to discuss. We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday. We'll get through this together!
* With special thanks to our colleagues: Kelly Landwehr, Sean Farrell, and Sarah Johnstone who supported our students and staff and Mark Monaghan who created this video and to our students and staff: Amanda, Emaly, Sarah, George, Zora, Eddie, Hannah, and Ari for sharing their voices with us!
