1/18/22 State COVID School Guidance Update

Dear ACSD Staff, Families, and Students,

As we prepare to return to school on Wednesday, we want to clarify how the new Agency of Education (AOE)’s testing and contact tracing guidance will impact our ACSD schools and families.

Schools are often at the center of changing state and national guidance and we recognize that this can cause frustration and fatigue for parents and staff. Although our community holds different opinions about how to respond to COVID-19, we share a desire to keep our students happy and healthy at school.

Beginning on Wednesday, January 19th, you can expect:

  • Increased rapid response testing options at school and home.  The Test-to-Stay program will transition to a Test-at-Home program for unvaccinated students  (outlined in the full guidance linked below). Increased home testing kits will be available for all families.

  • Contact tracing will be replaced with a more rapid response option (outlined in the full guidance linked below) due to Omicron’s rapid spread and shorter incubation period.

  • School principals will no longer email all members of the school community when there is a positive case.  All cases will be reported on the ACSD COVID Dashboard.

You can read the full list of changes and key updates to contact tracing here and find updated guidance for those with COVID or are close contacts here. We want to assure you that the new guidance is based on current knowledge of COVID-19 and variants and is supported by state and national health care experts including  the Vermont Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Our district has always followed guidance based on sound science while prioritizing student safety of our schools.  We will continue to enforce mitigation strategies that have been keeping our schools safe. We see evidence every day of those in our district coming together and truly working as a village through this unprecedented pandemic.

With Gratitude,

Peter Burrows, ACSD Superintendent
Kelly Landwehr, ACSD COVID Coordinator
