April 2, 2021

Dear ACSD Community,

In today’s press conference, Governor Scott shared information regarding changes to Vermont’s Strong and Healthy Start guidance, following recent CDC changes. We expect to receive the new state guidance next week, with more specifics about how this guidance will impact school operations and what it means for ACSD.

To that end, MUMS and MUHS sent out a survey for families to fill out by next Wednesday, April 7 to give us a better sense of what we need to plan for as we receive the new guidance. If you have a student at MUMS or MUHS, please reference today's Friday communication for more information.

COVID-19 Recovery Planning
ACSD recovery planning continues as we prepare to support students’ academic and wellness needs that have been impacted by the pandemic. Our work is aligned with the Vermont Agency of Education COVID-19 recovery framework emphasizing three core areas of focus:

  1. Social Emotional Learning, Mental Health, and Well Being

  2. Engagement and Truancy

  3. Academic Achievement and Success

These focus areas align well with work already underway in ACSD. Throughout this multi-year recovery process, our academic focus is on literacy, math, and data-driven decision making. These priorities are essential to realizing our goal of IB for all. Building forward on the past two years of ACSD’s System of Services Design Team work, our recovery efforts will emphasize inclusive instructional practices and robust systems to support success for all students.

Throughout this work, we will communicate not only with words, but also with actions that social-emotional wellness is a priority for both our adult and student community.

At this point, we are focused on identifying needs so we can find and move resources to address those needs equitably as we aim to accelerate student learning. There is a lot of work ahead. We’re grateful to have access to grants money through the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) fund.

The Recovery Planning Team, which began meeting in the spring of 2020, will continue to play a key advisory role in this next phase of COVID recovery. Additional teams, including a diverse range of stakeholders, will lead specific parts of this recovery process.

School Calendar
We've revised the 21-22 ACSD calendar after consultation with our other Addison County districts. Please see the revised calendar here. The change moves February break one week later.
