Dear ACSD Community,

First, what wonderful news that our MUHS Girls Hockey Team are state champions! We are so proud of our Tigers. Here’s what it was like as they rolled back into MUHS. Congratulations to the entire team and coaches, and thanks for bringing such positivity to our community.

It’s been a hard week in our nation as we grapple with more senseless mass shootings and racist anti-Asian violence. As a community, we need to stand up against hate, of all kinds, and work harder to push for systemic change to address deep-seated racism and discrimination. Our work in the year ahead, as we emerge from the pandemic, will be centered on the development of a Strategic Plan for Equity that focuses on how we as a community realize a learning community for all students.

Director of Equity and Student Services Finalists
The Director of Equity of Student Services Committee has moved forward two candidates for the ACSD Director of Equity and Student Services: Nicole Carter and Kevin Robinson. Please go here to learn more about each candidate and get connection details on the virtual visit times on Monday where you can drop in to meet them and engage in dialogue around their respective visions for this position and ACSD.

MUMS News
Please go here to learn more about MUMS and the great work ahead. Within the update is information about a MUMS Town Meeting on March 30, from 4:00-5:00, where you’ll be able to learn more, ask questions, and meet Michael Dudek, MUMS new principal.

Meal Kits
During the April break, ACSD is able to provide FREE meal kits for children ages 18 and younger. Each meal kit contains food for multiple days for one child and includes proteins, grains, vegetables, fruit, and milk.  Curbside pick up will take place on Friday, April 16th during dismissal at all ACSD elementary schools and from 4:00 - 5:30 pm at MUHS.  Families can choose the pick up location that works best, regardless of where children are enrolled, including sites in Mount Abraham and Addison Northwest School Districts.

Sign up using our Google Form between now and Tuesday, April 6th.

We are looking for volunteers to help package and sort food items, fold boxes, pack meal kits, drive meal kits to elementary schools, and distribute meal kits on April 14, 15, and 16.  If you are able to help, please sign up using this sign up sheet.

Please contact Laura LaVacca, llavacca@acsdvt.org or Erika Garner, egarner@acsdvt.org for more information.  If you know a family with children (birth to 18 years old) who might not see the sign-ups, please share this information with them.

ACSD Health and Safety Update
Superintendents across the state continue to work with the Agency of Education to determine next steps with health and safety guidance. New guidance is expected at the start of April, after which we’ll be determining what that means for MUMS and MUHS, with a goal of moving to 4 days a week of in-person instruction. At this point, we need to wait for the state to shift the guidance to make this possible, which includes monitoring case counts and COVID-19 transmission in the state. I will continue to update our community as more information is released.

For this week’s health and safety update from Kelly Landwehr, ACSD COVID-19 Coordinator, please go here.

Sincerely,

Peter Burrows
ACSD Superintendent
