Dear ACSD Community,
This month has been very full, and our focus continues to be maintaining the health and safety of students, staff, and families while keeping our schools open. I’ve talked with many families over the past weeks, and understand the considerable challenges that members of our community face as we navigate state guidance and the changing nature of the pandemic.
Our Community Partnership Council met last week to discuss how we can support our community during these stressful times. The ACSD Community Partnership Council has shifted its work this year to focus on ways the Council can support our community through the pandemic. The Vital Supports Committee helped organize the delivery of meal kits to schools for Thanksgiving break and also supported the effort to find volunteer help for the distribution. This work will continue with the upcoming meal kit distribution on December 22nd for winter break. If you're interested in volunteering, please go to this sign up form: https://www.signupgenius.com/
The Joy Committee has been working on ideas to connect ACSD students during the pandemic and have started conversations with schools to work on next steps. Please look for more information from them in the weeks and months ahead as we work to support hope and social/emotional wellness in our community.
As COVID-19 cases increase across Vermont, we are receiving inquiries from families hoping to enroll their students in remote instruction. At the secondary level, we have had the flexibility to accommodate these requests on a short term basis so far. At the K-6 level, our 100% remote program - the ACSD Remote Academy - is at capacity for the first semester. The next opportunity to begin in a Remote Academy class is the start of second semester, January 20th.
The Remote Academy is currently staffed to accommodate four sections (K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 6) including four classroom teachers and a single special educator. Those sections will be capped at 16 students in K-1, 20 in 2-3, 20 in 3-4, and 10 in grade 6 for semester 2. Preference will be given to students currently enrolled in Remote Academy classes. If demand outstrips these limits, we may post positions to hire additional teachers. However, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to fill such positions.
Whether your children attend elementary or secondary schools in ACSD, we will need to know whether you would like your child(ren) to enroll in in-person/hybrid or remote instruction for semester 2. Please take a minute to complete this quick survey by Friday, December 18.
Please reach out to your building principal if you have questions.

As winter break approaches, keep in mind the current health and safety guidelines around travel and gathering with those outside your household. We expect all families and staff to adhere to the expectations and will continue to enforce the Governor’s orders. We will update the ACSD community if any changes take place in this guidance prior to the break.
