Dear ACSD Community,

I’d like to acknowledge how important your support has been, and also recognize the challenge that we are working through as a community right now. As the state of Vermont continues to outperform compared to most other states in our approach to COVID-19, we are now confronting our first COVID-19 cases in schools. Our community is facing unparalleled stress, and ACSD staff are working incredibly hard to do what’s needed to support our students and families.

We know how important in-person learning is for our students, and are committed to keeping our schools open by following Department of Health recommendations and/or Governor’s directives. We feel confident that our systems, developed by the Department of Health and Agency of Education, allow us to respond quickly and effectively if there are positive COVID-19 cases in our schools. We will continue to make determinations on our specific phase of learning based on staffing considerations and state guidance, as shared in our ACSD COVID-19 Reentry Plan.

Health Update
We’ve talked with many families over the last weeks regarding the Governor’s directive on multi-family gatherings. Please go here for a review of that directive from Kelly Landwehr, our COVID-19 Coordinator.

Food Distribution
ACSD will be distributing free meal kits for kids again for the Holiday Recess. Please be on the lookout for an email with the link to the sign up form early next week. We will also post the link on school websites. The sign up will have opportunities to pick up at a variety of times and locations regardless of where children are enrolled or residence. All children 18 and under are eligible to receive these meals and we have enough for everyone. We ask folks to sign up by Sunday, December 13 so that we are sure to have enough for all those who are interested. This is a federally funded program and your participation in this helps our meal programs in a variety of ways.

Finally, we'll be sending out more information next week with a survey to gauge where our elementary families are as we plan for the second semester and remote learning.

Sincerely,

Peter Burrows
ACSD Superintendent
