Dear ACSD Community,


Since our announcement last week on the return of elementary students to fully in-person learning, we have been working to prepare our buildings, create schedules, and refine our teaching and learning systems in compliance with state health guidelines. ACSD staff are excited to welcome back our students to more in-person learning after our successful start over the last four weeks. Please see below for some changes that are coming as we move to five days a week of in-person learning.


Weekly Elementary Schedule
Students will be returning five days a week starting on October 12 (grades PreK-2) and October 19 (grades 3-6), with Wednesdays being a half day (12:45 release). The Wednesday half day is necessary to provide time for deep cleaning of our buildings, and also allows staff to respond to the many changes we are experiencing during the pandemic. Please look for more information from your principal regarding schedule and specifics over the next week.


Remote Learning - Elementary
I mentioned last week that we are working to better support our fully remote students as we transition to fully in-person attendance for most students. For our elementary students that are fully remote, we have designed a remote academy. This academy will be run by ACSD staff, and students will be assigned to an ACSD teacher. Please look for more information early next week as communication is sent to our fully remote students to outline the transition and the specifics of the new remote academy.


Meals for Remote Learning
Beginning October 12, meals "to go" will be offered daily at each elementary school. Breakfast and lunch are free to all children ages 18 and under through December 31. Each elementary school website will have a link to the daily order form which will be open from 3 p.m. on the previous day until 9 a.m. on the day families wish to pick up. If you do not have access to the website you can order meals by calling the school kitchen by 9 a.m.  Meals will be available to pick up each day at the elementary school between 12:30 and 1 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The pickup time on Wednesdays will be 1:15 to 1:45.


Middlebury Union High School will continue to have a pick up available from 9-9:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. These meal distributions will include breakfast and lunch for 3 days. The link to this order form will be on the MUMS and MUHS website and must be filled out by Thursday of the previous week.  


Families may elect to choose a pickup time location that is most convenient regardless of which school their children attend. Please note that the current pickup schedule and ordering procedure is in effect through October 9. Updated order forms for the new pickup schedule will be available on October 8.
