Dear ACSD Community,
This week, ACSD staff came back in person to begin the year, as we come together following the creation of the ACSD Reentry Plan and make final preparations for our first day of school on September 8. It has been five months since all staff have been in our schools. ACSD educators are very excited to welcome students back and make the connections that are so important to the academic, social, and emotional learning needs of our students.
We are beginning the year in a hybrid model in order to follow the Vermont health and safety school reentry guidelines and prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff, and families. We know that there are many unknowns that we will face over the course of the year, and beginning the year in a hybrid model allows us to better prepare for what’s ahead.
We don’t yet know the impact school reopening across the state will have, if any, on COVID-19 rates. In order to accurately assess the hybrid phase of learning and determine if a change to fully in-person is supported by state health and safety data (see Reentry Plan above for more information on all phases), ACSD has developed the following criteria in coordination with regional superintendents from Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle Counties. These criteria will be reviewed within the first six weeks of school to make a decision regarding any changes to our current hybrid phase:
Degree to which staffing levels enable all schools to follow health/safety procedures and meet the needs of all students
Vermont Department of Health guidance based on COVID-19 community data and trend lines
Ability to maintain compliance with directives from the Vermont Department of Health and Vermont Agency of Education
State guidance has strongly supported phasing in PK-5/6 as a first priority to full in-person learning when the health and safety conditions support it.
Please look for more information in the weeks to come as we continue to learn more about the impact of COVID-19 on our community, collaborate with partners and the state, and make decisions guided by the health and safety of our community and the learning needs of our students.
Mary Johnson Children's Center is offering limited slots for childcare during hybrid learning, and Monday is the deadline to apply for any potential openings. Their most recent update on the program can be found here. Please reach out to Anne Gleason with any questions.
Please sign up for transportation to and from school here. The deadline to sign up is August 28. Please refer to the 2020-21 bus routes here. Seating will be assigned and space is limited. We are unable to provide transportation for families who do not sign up in advance. If you have any questions, please contact Brittany Gilman at email@example.com
