New Mentorship Program for MUMS Students

with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vermont coming September 2021

ACSD has partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vermont (BBBSVT) to launch a mentorship program for MUMS students at the beginning of the ‘21-22 school year.  This is a 1-to-1 mentoring program through which an adult volunteer is matched with a student .

We are very excited about this program and the opportunity to support students as they prepare to transition into MUMS and throughout the middle school years.   Mentors are another positive adult role model to help your child on the path to success.  There are immediate and long-term benefits resulting from mentorship programs such as healthier relationships and lifestyle choices, increased attendance in school, better behavior at home and at school, and a decreased likelihood of substance abuse.  Visit the BBBS website to see an inspirational video on what it means to children who participate in this program.

More information about this program can be found in this letter.  Thank you to the ACSD Community Partnership Council for forming this partnership and helping to launch this great program.

Current BCS 4th graders and incoming and returning MUMS students are invited to fill out an application to participate in this program.  We are asking families to sign up now so that we can begin the process of matching mentors with program participants over the summer to be ready for the start of the school year.  We will have a limited number of spaces available at the start of the program and plan to grow the program as we get a better idea of how many students are interested in participating.  We encourage anyone who is interested to apply now by filling out an application at  www.bbbsvt.org.  Printable applications are also available:  youth applicationsibling application, and school release form

Please see these attached FAQs to learn more details about the program.  If you have further questions, please contact Jill Strube, BBBSVT Program Coordinator, at 802-689-0092 ext. 2, or jill@bbbsvt.org.  Questions can also be directed to ACSD Liaisons: Liam Battjes, lbattjest@acsdvt.org, 382-1247 at MUMS, or Elizabeth Burrows at Bridport Central School, eburrows@acsdvt.org, 758-2331.
