Mrs. O'Neill

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I hope each of you enjoyed your summer and are prepared and ready to learn. I know that I am! This summer was a very interesting one for me. Due to COVID precautions, I did not visit my family in Ohio for the Fourth of July (an annual trip). I was able to spend the long July 4th weekend in Massachusetts with my daughter, son-in-law, and my granddaughter, Ellie (who will be 2-years-old in November). Did you visit any relatives during summer vacation? As most of you were aware, I had a neck injury during the school year which resulted in a cervical operation in late August to relieve the pain and regain the full use of my arms/hands. My neurosurgeon has allowed me to return-to-work on Monday, 10/5/2020.

It will be a joy to see your smiling faces again, except, because of the COVID mask-wearing requirement, I will be looking at your smiling eyes. I also completed a graduate school class in Technology, Schooling, and Society. Did you read or do any learning over your summer vacation?

I am also taking another graduate school course in Executive Function this fall. It will help me to learn strategies to improve reading and writing skills.

I'm very pleased to be back and anticipate a PAWSitive year ahead!

Take a look at my Web Resources page and browse ALL of the various links. There are quite a variety of Student Interactives as well as audiobook websites (see Books Read Aloud). You can also visit the Vermont Online Library to see more resources offered for students K- 6 in Kids InfoBits

I'm looking forward to working with each of you this year and seeing you grow in your love of books and your enjoyment of finding and reading just right books. Whether it be realistic fiction, fantasy, graphic novels, nonfiction, mystery, historical fiction, picture books, easy readers, etc., we have them available in the library. I'm looking forward to showing you how to use the online catalog (OPALS) to help you locate books of interest. I'm sure you will be experts in no time.

Our BCS online catalog for searching for books (OPALS) can be found at this website address: https://bcs-acsd.phoebe.opalsinfo.net/bin/home. Please feel free to ask for assistance as you familiarize yourself with the online library catalog. I'm looking forward to a great start to a great school year. Happy reading!

This is my eighth year as the Library Media Specialist (I'm here on M/W). I am also the Library Media Specialist at Orwell Village School (I'm there on T/Th). In a previous life, I taught 2nd and 5th grades. While raising a family, I was a substitute teacher. I live with my husband (Bill), son (Patrick), three dogs (Tilly, Sadie, & Maggie), and a cat (Zoey) in Shoreham. I enjoy reading, listening to classic old-time radio, shopping, and playing with my dogs and cat. I was raised on a farm in Ohio as the youngest of eight children. I always remember being read to by my parents and siblings. Give your child a gift...read to them.

I look forward to helping your child develop a love of literacy.
