Degrees and Certifications:
BA in History, Norwich University ('03) Vermont Level II Highly Qualified Social Studies 7-12.
Mr. Sears
I have been lucky enough to teach Social Studies at Middlebury Union High School for over a decade. Along the way I have taught AP World History, 9th and 10th grade World History, Anthropology, Economics, Psychology, Public Issues and World Affairs, and American History (under several different course names).
I live in Cornwall with my wife Eileen and our two awesome (and nutty) children. They both proudly attend Cornwall Elementary (go Cougars!), and I’ll be lucky to see them roaming MUHS in the not-so-distant future. When I’m not working you can find me hiking, reading, coaching my children’s sports teams, playing guitar, and broadcasting Middlebury Tigers football on 92.1 WVTK.
I grew up in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. I lived in Canaan until 9th grade, then attended Twinfield Union in Marshfield (’96). I went to Bard College at Simon’s Rock for two years, then earned my BA in history from Norwich University. I am currently pursuing a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Castleton University.
I love teaching high school and having the chance to help students grow as thinkers, scholars, and people. I am deeply invested in bringing relevance, engagement, and inquiry into the study of social studies at the high school level. I truly can’t imagine feeling so happy and at home in any other job. Please reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or even just to say “hi”!
