What an great first week. Shoreham Elementary is back in action with smiling faces, welcoming adults, and amazing students. I want to thank care-takers and families for your support and communication.

Students will be spending the first portion of their day outside on the playground:

• Car Drop off will be done at the Basketball Hoops
• No supervision/students allowed prior to 7:30am
• All students will enter the building by 8:00am
  
• Have your student dressed for being outdoors
• Please remind your child to keep their belongings together so they can be picked up at as they go inside

All students at SES will receive a Take Home Folder. Please check this regularly.

This contains:

• Most classes send information home on Fridays
• Whole School announcements and forms
• Classroom updates
• Student artifacts

It is so wonderful to begin the year with all of these creative learners! We began this year with growing our minds by working with mistakes! We learn that mistakes are sometimes frustrating, however they do help our minds think about things differently and often are the steps we take to success.

Learners are given paper that has a “mistake” on it. Using different perspectives, they then turn the mistake into a work of art. A scribble becomes an alligator, a farm, a mountain range, etc.

How can we apply this creative problem solving to other areas of our learning?

We are looking for YOU to help the students at Shoreham Elementary School. There are many ways to get involved. Prior to coming into our school, you must complete the volunteer application process. If you have any question or want an idea of what the possibilities are,

Speaking of breakfast and lunch: All school meals will be free again for ALL students! But, it's still VERY IMPORTANT to complete the free and reduced meal application form. Our district gets $475,000+ each year based on the % of students who qualify for free/reduced meals.

The first day of school is right around the corner. Shoreham staff or collaborating and planning to create a safe and welcoming environment where all students have access, success and a sense of belonging.

• Our Ice Cream Social kicks off the school year on Monday, August 29 at 5pm! All students, families, and staff are invited! Please bring any forms to school at this event.
• The first day of school is Wednesday, August 31st. Our school day begins at 7:45am. Students should arrive at 7:40am. Please do not arrive before 7:30 as students will not be supervised.

The photo above is of our amazing staff: Liam Battjes, Jenny Muskopf, Julie Hyyat, Martha Santa Maria, & Jaclyn Countryman. This group came together in mid-August to build classroom environments that engage, motivate, and provide students with the skills to succeed. Amazing work!

I am so excited for the beginning of the school year! Our new and returning staff are preparing for students to return and our amazing custodial crew has been working to get the building ready for us. Please watch your mailboxes early next week for important forms and information to return to school.

• I shared our staff changes and will highlight them in our first weeks. We have one addition since I wrote in July: Brandon Croce will be joining us as our new PE teacher. Welcome Brandon!
