Getting Involved in Our School Community

Weybridge Elementary School invites you to participate in our vibrant and essential support network. Volunteers help reduce costs and enhance learning opportunities, allowing us to do more for our students each year. Here are some ways you and your family can help out:

    School-Day Opportunities

Room Parent: Work with the teacher to organize class celebrations, encourage grade level families to gather out of school a few times per year. (2 per classroom)

Breakfast Help: Work with Tom or Barbara to serve breakfast from the kitchen. Kitchen helpers find this to be a fun, quick job and a neat way to get to know people. Volunteer shifts are available every school day. (7:45 – 8:15)

Lunch Help: Work with Tom or Barbara for final preparations, set-up and serving of lunch.  No special skills are required and the students love seeing familiar faces in the kitchen! Once a week or once a month—the more individuals take shifts, the lighter the load for everyone.  (10:30 - 12:15/12:30)

Library: Help Megan & Linda throughout the year with shelving books and other tasks. This is an excellent way to learn more about our great collection of books and other resources. (30 minutes to 2 hours per week; once a week or as time allows)

Field Trips:  Students go on several field trips during the school year, and there is an occasional need for drivers/chaperones. This is a fun opportunity for you to share an experience with your child’s class and to reduce the school’s transportation costs. Examples: Shelburne Farms, Flynn Center, apple orchards, and art museums. It’s often possible to bring pre-school or younger siblings on certain outings, which is great for them, too! As drivers will be alone with students, ACSD policy requires that you have a criminal background check, including fingerprinting.

Coaching/skill sharing: All sports are coached by volunteers. You don’t need to be an expert to help make a child’s sports experience fun. Have an idea for a non-sport after school activity you could lead? Let us know! As coaches will be alone with students, ACSD policy requires that you have a criminal background check, including fingerprinting.

    “Out of school” Opportunities

Event Helpers and Organizers: There are many events throughout the year that benefit the school and community. Some are planned and run with input from students, such as game night and the annual voting day pie sale.  Larger events, like the Barn Dance, Book Fair and Tag Sale, require the work of several adults and may be divided into shifts. Please consider taking the lead on an event, or giving an hour or two to help make an event a success.  This years’ events are listed on the FOWE webpage.

Bakers/Shoppers: Several times a year we need baked goods or grocery supplies for special events. This is a convenient way to help out that’s flexible with your schedule. We’ve been using online signups to simplify this process.

Bottle/Can Recycling: At the Weybridge Recycling center, behind the fire station, there’s a collection area for returnable bottles and cans to benefit the school. Last year we collected over $600! In addition to saving these bottles and cans, we need people who are able to take a little time on Saturday mornings to bring the bottles/cans from the recycling center to the redemption center and then give the proceeds to Kirsten. It would be ideal to share this role between 2-3 families.  (Saturdays from 11:00 – 11:30 or as your schedule permits)

Box Tops for Education: This program has recently changed so that the clipping aspect will be phased out as the new app takes over.  You can check out https://www.boxtops4education.com/ for program information.

Ink Cartridge Redemption: Save your empty printer ink cartridges and put them in the collection box in the office along with your Box Tops. The cartridges are redeemed for cash for the school.

Outdoor Projects: If you enjoy working outdoors, consider offering your time for projects such as weeding school flower beds, pruning bushes, or helping with the Outdoor Classroom.  This year we are looking for 1 or 2 people to coordinate maintenance of the outdoor classroom with Christina Wadsworth and Megan.

Ice Rink Maintenance: Each year we need help setting up and breaking down/storing our ice rink, plus help maintaining the ice mid-season.

Thank you for helping our school!
