Sept. 30, 2016
Mary Hogan’s 6th Annual Read-a-thon will take place October 1 - 31st this year. You have received earlier announcements about helping your child find sponsors (on bright yellow paper). If your child needs help finding a sponsor, please let me know and we will make sure he/she has a sponsor (there are volunteer sponsors at school and in our community). This fundraiser has been very successful in past years, not only because of the funds raised that support each classroom but also because our children are READING! The time spent reading is the best part!
For the month of October, your child’s Read-a-thon log will be considered his/her classroom reading homework. Grades 3 and 4 are expected to read for 30 minutes each night or 180 minutes per week. Your child will need to keep his/her log in the Home Folder so it can travel back and forth from school to home, read for 30 minutes every day, and have an adult initial his/her log. The Read-a-thon committee will collect the logs on Tuesdays (they are returned to them before the end of the day) to count our minutes, however, your child will need his/her log every day for us to check in for homework. We want 100% participation in our classroom. (We will not begin additional homework until the month of November, so read, read, read!). Please help remind your child to record, get initials, and return it to school every day. Thank you for your support!
