• School Choice Time Line:

    • Currently Vermont Law allows state wide School choice for grades 9-12 as follows:

    • Common Implementation Dates:

    • December – February:  Notice to students and families of the opportunity to apply for choice and the availability of applications.

    • January 17:  send to Vermont AOE, the name, phone, and email address of the person in the school responsible for the application process; these names will be posted on the Department’s public high school choice web site.

    • Not later than February 1:  All high schools will announce their capacity (the number of available slots) to accept school choice.

    • February 1 through March 1:  Applications should be made to the student’s current home school.  The student’s home school will then forward the name of the student to the school(s) he/she is interested in applying to.

    • March 1 – 31:   Applications will be processed.

    • April 1:  Notice to students of selection, denial, or waiting list status.  Additionally, students already in the program will automatically be reenrolled unless they contact MUHS to indicate that they will not be returning.

    • By April 15:  Students inform school of residence of their decisions; decisions should be communicated to receiving school right away.
